Microsoft’s new operating system, Windows 11, was released to eligible devices earlier this month, on October 5. If you have a compatible computer and are using Windows 10, you may upgrade for free, but many people are still waiting.
Because Microsoft is releasing the OS in stages, your system may not ask you to upgrade right away — in fact, even if you tell your computer to check for updates, you may not find it. Microsoft stated in an August blog post that “all eligible devices will be offered the free upgrade to Windows 11 by mid-2022.” You don’t want to wait until the following year? Continue reading to learn how the Windows 11 Installation Assistant can save you time when installing Windows 11.
If you’re not in a hurry, the Windows 11 update will be pushed to your device when Microsoft’s data suggests the upgrade is ready for your device in the coming months. If your device is compatible and fulfils the minimum criteria, the upgrading procedure will feel identical to a regular Windows 10 update once the new OS is released. (And even if it doesn’t, Microsoft will provide a fix, but your Windows 11 installation will no longer be supported.)
However, you can still manually download Windows 11 and test out new features like widgets, snap layouts, virtual desktops, and the new Microsoft Store. We’ll show you how to do it down below. Here’s all you need to know about Microsoft’s new software before you download it.
You may check in a few different ways to determine if your existing Windows 10 PC is eligible for the free upgrade to Windows 11. If you buy a new PC, it will be eligible for the free upgrade as well.
If you haven’t yet upgraded to Windows 10, don’t worry: there is still a way to get Windows 10 for free. Now is a good time to upgrade so that your computer is ready for the Windows 11 upgrade. That method will also work if you want to manually upgrade an older machine to Windows 11, however Microsoft advises against doing so because it may not be eligible for the same updates.
Upgrade To Windows 11: How To Get Microsoft’s New Operating System Right Now Without Waiting
Some customers will be able to download Windows 11 in the same way as they would any other new version of Windows. Simply go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and select Check for Updates from the drop-down menu. You’ll see Feature update to Windows 11 if it’s available. Install by clicking the Download button.
Please keep in mind that the Windows 11 rollout will be gradual, and it could take months before it reaches your device. New PCs will be the first to receive the upgrade, with all supported devices receiving it by mid-2022, depending on device age and hardware.
You have a few options if the update isn’t ready yet but you want to upgrade right now. Downloading the Windows 11 Installation Assistant is the best and simplest method. After the download is complete, select Run to verify that your hardware is compatible. Then click Accept and Install to accept the licence conditions and get started with the installation. You’ll be requested to restart your computer once the programme has finished installing. Don’t be worried if your PC restarts numerous times while the installation is being completed. Simply keep your computer turned on until everything is completed.
If you can’t use the Windows 11 Installation Assistant, you have a few backup options, but be aware that they’re more difficult. We strongly suggest that you wait for the update to arrive on your device. You can build Windows 11 installation media or an ISO file if you’re sure you want to go on. Those methods are detailed on Microsoft’s download Windows 11 page.
What is included in Windows 11 ?
Windows 11 has a more streamlined style that includes pastel colours, softer corners, a new startup sound, and a more Mac-like appearance. The Windows Start menu has been relocated to the centre of the screen, with app icons grouped in the centre next to it. You’ll find a slew of new desktop features, including widgets that provide information at a glance and simplified virtual desktop construction. Additionally, Android apps will be incorporated into Windows and available for download through the Microsoft Store, albeit this functionality will not be available immediately away. The upgrade is the first significant modification to Microsoft’s operating system since the debut of Windows 10 in 2015. For the past year, there have been rumours of a significant Windows redesign. On May 25, Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella claimed that the company was developing “one of the most significant updates of Windows in the previous decade,” confirming that a major shift was on the way for the OS’s 1.3 billion users in 2021. As purported photos of Windows 11 spread in mid-June, Microsoft discreetly stated that it would discontinue support for Windows 10 in 2025.
