Kaser Focus: Back to (magic) school

GamesBeat Summit 2022 returns April 26-28 with its biggest event for gaming leaders. Reserve your place here!

Considering last week’s State of Play was extremely disappointing, this week’s show dedicated to Hogwarts Legacy was comparatively flooded with life. After the gods pushed him back and forth, we did Finally Take a look at the final Wizard World video game – all its spellcasting combat, elaborate world and intricate descriptions.

Honestly, I’m torn. I lived in Harry Potter, and a part of me is nostalgic for the restless days of my childhood. However, I have tried to keep the series behind me for many reasons. The idea of going back to it is full. We’ll see what happens in the 2022 holiday, when the game launches.

Speaking of nostalgia, RiffTrax is making a video game. The legacy of the Mystery Science Theater 3000, another pillar of my childhood, is still strong. I’m not sure how bad movies would translate into a good party game, but there seems to be potential.

News on upcoming games: Bethesda reveals some details about Starfield, in which you can act as a space stool pigeon – all my dreams are coming true. Humble also showed some new games that it is releasing. My favorite is Chinatown Detective Agency, which seems like a throwback to my Carmen Sandigo days. Oh look, there is nostalgia again!

In other news this week, employees at Moon Studios allege it’s a difficult and toxic place to work. Multiple people talked to my colleague Dean Takahashi about his experiences working on the moon, and that, in a word, seems yaki. Check out Dean’s article on this topic to see what I mean.

For me, I spent a little part of the week playing the new indie tunic. Don’t let his fine art fool you: it’s a soliloquy struggle – not at the level of the Alden Ring, maybe, but still tough. I’m also playing Ghostwire Tokyo. Stay tuned for reviews! I would have loved to play Gran Turismo, but spent a tiny part of the week offline with that game in mind … yes.
