Kaser Focus: Elden Things on Deck

GamesBeat Summit 2022 returns April 26-28 with its biggest event for gaming leaders. Reserve your place here!

Hi everyone! I’m the newest author with GamesBeat, and now I’m officially cool to try my hand at my own column. Here, I will publish the most interesting news of the week. I’ll also give you some ideas on what games to play, either just launched this week or dropped on your subscription services. Be safe, everyone!

In gaming this week, the biggest news is like the rest of the world’s news: game companies are taking sides in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. A number of gaming companies, including Microsoft, EA and CD Project Red, have announced that they will no longer sell products in Russia. Others have announced their intention to donate to pro-Ukraine charities. It is this or clear silence; No one in between.

In other news, Alden Ring has apparently met the expectations of his fans and then some. After years of overheated games falling flat, FromSoftware’s latest success succeeds in keeping its promises and delivering Open World Tech on the Dark Souls formula. Honestly, I’m a gamer equivalent of Golden Retriever when playing games: I have no idea what’s going on, but I’m happy to be there.

Also, Steam Deck has been officially launched. My colleague Jeff Grubb managed to make a snag for the review, and he seems to be enjoying it. For the record, if you want to reserve one right now, the Steam store estimates that it will be delivered sometime after Q2 this year.
