Kaser Focus: Return of BD-1 (oh, and the other guy)

Did you miss the GamesBeat Summit 2022 session? All sessions are now available to stream. Now look.

Just a quick personal note: for those of you who don’t know, I’m Texan. Something unspeakably horrible happened in my home state this week, and it has a profound effect on many of us. I will not say more about it, because it is not my story and this is not the right place. But my heart goes out to the people of Uwalde, especially the families of the dead.

Before I write this, Disney released the trailer for Star Wars JD: Survivor, a sequel to the action-adventure title JD: Fallen Order. It’s not much to look forward to, but it won’t stop the small part of my brain that I’ve set aside for guessing for Star Wars. At least we know that BD-1, Star Wars’ most beautiful new droid (I’m so sorry, BB-8) is coming back with Cal, and that is the minimum entry price.

In other news, the QA team at Raven Software has won their vote to form a union. Activision Blizzard now has to negotiate with the Game Workers Alliance. I’m excited to see how this interaction turns out: we haven’t seen anything like this. We’ve also got a September launch date for Daedalic’s Gollum game, so at least that’s something. I also got a look at Supermassive’s new teen slasher flick game, The Query. Looks like Supermassive is finally totally immersed in the origins of his Scolok movie – and that’s a good thing!

According to the game, I’m doing something different. Nintendo took the first step this week to cut eShops for the Wii U and 3DS. While you can still use eShop cards, you can’t load funds into stores with a credit card. I still have both consoles, and I decided to play some Wii U and 3DS games. All I can say is that the Wii U is underrated or nothing like that. But I have noticed that it is the only place to access it A lot Of the games I can’t play on the switch or anywhere else. I played some Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, for example. Just give me a more classic Fire symbol on the switch, Nintendo. That’s all I want.
