I don’t know what was on the air this week, but the sports industry decided to announce the return of many iconic gaming characters this week. Earlier this week, we heard that a new Monkey Island game was going to happen, and Ron Gilbert would be involved. I’m not popping off like Mike Minotti, but I’m excited to see the return of one of the greatest point-and-click adventure games ever.
Rockstar and Remedy have announced that they are remaking the first two Max Pain games for the current-gen console. I’m not exactly a fan of Max Payne, but I’m a big fan of Noir and Urban thrillers, and Max Payne is one of the truest examples of both genre video games. Also, I usually like the cut of Remedy’s tongue.
Crystal Dynamics is making a front entry in the Tomb Rider series on the newly launched Unreal Engine 5. We don’t know anything else about her, but that’s all I need to know, because I missed Lara Croft. I would assume that Lara Croft is returning to the new title, although no one has explicitly said so on Crystal Dynamics. It’s not a Tomb Rider game without Lady Croft.
Other than that, the big news is that Activision Blizzard has hired more than 1,000 of its contract workers to become full-time employees, in line with pay rises. Notably, the pay change did not apply to Raven Software or their QA team, which was leading the consolidation effort following the dismissal of their colleagues. Very interesting.
Speaking of games this week, I’m playing Chinatown Detective Agency’s new adventure game. This throwback of the old Carmen San Diego Games is reviving my love of research and detective work. But on the other side of things, I finally finished my Tina Wonderlands review. The two games seem to be as far apart as possible, so it’s been an interesting week.
