Confluent’s new report outlines business-level benefits, challenges and opportunities in the real-time data stream as tech leaders around the world see it. The report shows how data streams can ultimately play a role in the success organizations experience now and in the future.

One of the most important findings in the report was the relationship between data streaming and the bottom line. The report found that most leaders have access to some real-time data streams (97%), but those with broad access (66%) have a big advantage. More than half (56%) of this group have reported higher revenue growth than their competitors, and even higher.

Of course, customer satisfaction is the main indicator of income. The report found that three out of four organizations say they will lose customers without access to insights from real-time data streams. In an age where consumers expect interactions to be personalized and immediately available across all channels, brands rely on real-time data to enhance customer satisfaction.

76% of organizations say they are likely to lose customers against competitors without the customer insights provided by real-time data streams.

While there is a clear correlation between happy customers and real-time data streams with revenue, taking advantage of data in motion is not so easy. The report found that many businesses lack the architecture to consolidate and leverage information flowing from a variety of sources. In fact, 60% of reported perceived difficulties in integrating multiple data sources was a top barrier to accessing more real-time data.

The report is based on a 15-minute blind survey (conducted between January and March 2022) of 1,950 IT and engineering leaders in the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Australia and Singapore. All were full-time employees of companies with more than 500 staff.
