Cloud Sustainability, Carbon Footprint Measurement and Advanced Grid Management Software are three emerging environmental sustainability technologies that will reach early mainstream adoption by 2025, Gartner, Inc. said.

The path to a net-zero future will create new opportunities for technology and service providers to enable sustainable business. The 26 emerging environmental sustainability technologies and trends on Gartner’s Impact Radar fall into the top five topics: energy; Sustainable business; Atmosphere; Circular and biodiversity, food and agriculture.

Environmental sustainability is not a matter for certain industries; Instead, it is the responsibility of global society. If we want to protect our climate, sustainable business is a must for everyone.

Therefore, Gartner expects that the transition to a net-zero economy will be as disruptive as the Industrial Revolution or the Digital Revolution. This is for two reasons: first, it would be a huge undertaking to address greenhouse gas emissions with energy efficiency and renewable energy, on the one hand, and complement it with circular efforts facilitated by technology. Second, business models, corporate strategies and processes will need to be thoroughly reconsidered and modified to meet these goals.

Gartner predicts that by 2025, technology providers with C-level executives for sustainability will grow an average of 5% faster than their peers. Sustainable business is a disruptive force, and technology and service providers will be affected to varying degrees in the short, medium and long term.
