Sonic the Hedgehog 2 film beats predecessor, speeding to $331.6M at the box office

S.Onyx the Hedgehog 2 Beat the original film by scoring $ 331.64 million at the global box office. This makes it the most successful video game adaptation ever.

That’s a strong result for the movie, which debuted in the U.S. on April 8 and outside the U.S. on March 31. Good news for Sega, which owns the Sonic game franchise and co-produced the movie with Paramount Pictures. The previous film grossed $ 319.71 million after opening in 2020.

Based on SEGA’s global blockbuster videogame franchise, The Sonic the Hedgehog The film series tells the story of the world’s fastest hedgehog as it adapts to its new home on Earth.

The film was also a worldwide hit, with no. 1 in 47 markets, including the UK, France, Australia and other countries, as well as strong sales in Mexico and Brazil.

The film topped US box office gross at $ 162.74 million, surpassing the previous film’s $ 148.97 million, breaking the previous record for highest-grossing video game-based film adaptation ever. It also recorded $ 168.9 million internationally, surpassing its predecessor to reach $ 331.64 million worldwide.
