Crafton and Striking Distance Studios today announced the release date for their upcoming sci-fi horror game, The Callisto Protocol. The game is set to launch on December 2, 2022.

In addition to the launch date, we also got a new look at the gameplay. It feels like a very dead space / system shock, with the protagonist, Jacob Lee, fighting the disgusting, Micheapen monsters. According to a PlayStation blog post, Jacob Callisto is a prisoner in a black iron prison on the moon. The monsters are his fellow inmates and prison staff called Biophase.

Glenn Schofield, CEO of Striking Distance, stated in a blog post that the combat system “forces players to become closer and more personal with our terrifying creatures” and that they “blend melee and gunplay seamlessly with a unique gravity weapon called GRP.”

Callisto protocol launches on PS5, Xbox Series X / S, PS4 and PC.
