WhatsApp, owned by Meta, is actively developing its app and working on new features. The latest beta of the app on iOS reveals that a new feature on message responses like iMessage may be coming soon.
In their latest findings, they discovered that the new beta on iOS shows a related setting. WABetaInfo shared that WhatsApp version 22.72 on iOS adds toggle new feedback notifications in app settings.
While this toggle may appear for beta users, this feature can come to the platform fairly quickly. Alternatively, the company may have accidentally disclosed this setting and removed it in a future beta if the feedback feature is not ready yet.
In 2020, Mark Zuckerberg shared that Meta (Facebook at the time) planned to merge the messaging systems of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp. He said plans would not materialize until 2022. With WhatsApp likely to add responses to messages soon, the gap between it and Facebook / Instagram Direct Messages (DMs) is getting narrower.
The merger between Facebook and Instagram DM has already taken place, as both platforms support the same messaging features (for the most part). WhatsApp is still far from being one of these two services. It remains to be seen whether the three will merge this year. It is also possible that the company may be prevented from taking this possible step due to a monopoly.
